We were cutting costs and wondered whether Team seats could serve as a spare tank for when a usage limit hits. Anthropic runs a program called ‘Claude for Startups’.

| Company email on the site’s domain | personal email only | had to create one |
A company email without paying for a mailbox
We didn’t need a new mailbox — just mail sent to the company address passed on to an existing inbox. A free forwarding service plus three lines in the domain’s settings table (two receiving servers and one destination) did it.
- The first test mail got a ‘unknown sender, retry in 5 minutes’ reply (greylisting). That’s normal — real mail servers retry on their own.
- A test sent from our own PC using the company address as the sender was rejected as spoofed. Also normal — it means nobody can impersonate our address.
- The sign-in confirmation mail from Anthropic did get through.
Pledges made at signup — easy to miss
- No use of Claude for legal, medical or financial advice
- No use of this API in products aimed at under-18s — so apps and games that minors can use do not get this Console’s API key
The one thing to be careful about if accepted
The team-join screen offers ‘bring your data over’. Choosing it closes the existing personal account and cancels its subscription, irreversibly (per the docs). Always choose ‘keep both’. The terms also say your company name may be listed publicly as a participant.
What we still don’t know
- Whether we are accepted — an email should arrive around October 12
- Whether it converts to paid after the year — not in the terms; check before the year is up
